I Am Not My Hair

I work out everyday and I have no desire to obsess about my hair anymore.  I no longer spend hours and tons of $$ in the salon every week just to achieve a straight “professional” look.  As a black woman in corporate america, this confession may cause a few clutched pearls. This is a dilemma that many of us face at the expense of our health & fitness.

Over the past few months, you’re likely to find my hair pulled back into a ponytail 75% of the time.  I still maintain a relaxer every 6-8 weeks – maybe 10 depending on my schedule.  But as time progress and I focus more on my health & fitness, I’m considering going natural. I want to look good and my hair is part of that total package, but not at the expense of my heart health.  So yes, I’m a black woman who isn’t obsessed about my hair.  If society doesn’t like the new and improved me, too bad.
